Why was Englnad overrun and Japan was not? -

In ancient times, Japan was never really overrun by foreign powers. England, on the other hand, was conquered by invaders from many other countries. What explains this?

Basic geography mean a lot. England is right smack in the middle of things, surrounded by several neighboring countries and separated by a river from another. Japan, on the other hand, is an island, and believe me -- the Pacific Ocean and Sea of Japan are not friendly bodies of water to try sailing in for conquest.

Actually, the last time England was invaded and conquered was 1066. A lot has to do with location
