Hi there, I spent 3 months in Tokyo last fall so I relate to you what I did. First of all the plane tickets are going to be the most expensive thing for the trip. They fluctuate wildly so you need to start doing some planning. When I went I got a good deal and paid 850 for a round trip ticket. For accommodations I stayed at a place called sakura house, which is like an apartment but without the hassle of long-term commitment. The website is http://www.sakura-house.com/ They have various types of rooms, ranging from private rooms to dorm style rooms. Personally I stayed in the dorm setting and paid 350 a month. Also they expect you to put a deposit of 200 whenever you fill out your application online, but you get that back whenever you leave. As for food I spent about 20-100 a week depending on if I ate out alot or just cooked my own food. The main thing is planning though, because I had to find a room that was available at sakura house to coincide for the time I wanted to go and for my plane ticket. So start planning now if you really want to go. So all in all I spent close to 2000 for my room and ticket. If you include all my expenses such as food, alcohol :P, purchasing clothes, traveling expenses, etc. I spent a good 3000. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Also, if you need help with your planning I don t mind helping at all too :) All this is in dollars too, and also since your going in a group you can probably get good deals on plane tickets, and food can be cheaper if you all chip in and cook your own meals. Final note this was all when I went in the fall, since the dollar has been falling it might be alittle more expensive.
