If I join the army what are the chances of getting stationed in Japan? I would really love to get stationed in Japan because I have a daughter there.

My husband has been hoping to get stationed there for a while, but says it s pretty rare. One of his buddies was offered a spot there and turned it down, he had a change of heart and went back to see if it was still available and a hour after he declined it was already taken. I hope you have better luck though, if not why not just move there on your own to see your daughter?

It is unfortunately a very tough assignment to get. Some people have tried for their entire career to get to Japan but couldn t. The most common overseas assignment for the Army are Germany and Korea... Everything else is luck of the draw. The people that I know that got Japan were usually if they were offered it an a re-enlistment option. You may stand a better chance of going as a Marine or Sailor.

Well, since we are not at war in Japan, I would say the chances are next to zero.

Not very good unless you specifically have it written in your contract, which may be possible depending on the MOS you choose. It is easy to get to Korea or Germany, but there aren t as many spots open for Japan.

The chances are really slip as for as a I know only high ranking people get stationed out there.

i was stationed 5 years in oki and from what ive seen the army has very few opportunities out there. its pretty obvious by the size of their base as well. very few soldiers out there. if you are not in the military and are seeking to join in order to get stationed out there then your best chance is the Marines and Navy if you are looking at mainland or Marines,Navy and AirForce if you are looking at oki.

just let your commanders know they can not read minds you can contract it also

I dunno, but I do know that you are allowed to indicate places where you would prefer to be stationed. It would probably increase your chances if you had skills that the Army would think are good reasons to send you to Japan, like if you can speak Japanese or something. The Army would always get the final decision, though.
