What kind of education do you need in order to teach English in Japan? -

I am wanting to maybe live in Japan one day and I know that one of the jobs that are most available for Americans is to teach English. I was wondering what I needed to do or take in order to teach in Japan.

you must have a masters in English and Japanese mark k

The Japanese government requires you to have a four year degree to qualify for a work visa. There are exceptions, but teaching English isn t one of them. Most teachers are under 30 years old. These jobs are not going to be life long. Outside of teaching English, there is little available. Most jobs require native level Japanese. And they will always go to a native Japanese first. Unless the person has a skill that few Japanese have.

Ok you do not need a four year degree to teach english in Japan. You ll have to be very lucky and find an english company that will hire you and willing to support your workers visa. (there are apparently some companies that hire you just for being a native english speaker and you can hold no degree) If you want something solid and for sure, then yes a 4-year is good for a stable job.

You don t need 4-year degree to teach English in Japan.. A BA will do for the run of the mill jobs-a TESOL Certificate on top of that is a big asset. A MA in TESOL or a MSc in applied linguistics will put you in the running for a university job.

Four year degree. And it won t be a long term job.
