How come hotel rates are so high in Japan compare to the States? -

I stayed at one of Best Wetern here in the states, and it was less than 100 dollars per night (2 queen beds). And the room was fairly big. It is almost impossible to find that kind of hotel in Japan... Why??? Also are there some hotels which have a kitchen???

You really can t directly compare rates between the US and other countries, even for comparable hotels. There are too many different factors. Operating costs can vary due to differences in labor laws, the cost of land, taxes, etc. A hotel can be relatively cheap in one country and a comparable one will be far more expensive in another country. Well, isn t that obvious as the property/ land price is higher in Japan due to lack of spaces. You also possible to find big hotel if you are willing to pay the premium. You can rent the service apartment in Japan, they call it weekly mansion, just google it, and you will find couple of providers

In this 21st century, I am surprised that here is still this kind of people exists who believes American motel rate is always global standard. Compared to Moscow, London and San Francisco if you really try to take a look, some hotels provide you room with kitchenette offerring much more reasonable rate in Japan.

The price of living in Japan is a lot higher than in the states, unless its NY or LA... plus there isn t as much space there, so space is more valuable b/c of lack of space (supply/demand)... And yes there are hotels that offer a kitchen... you just have to find them... they have a certain name to them, like extended stay, where they offer you those items....
