yes it was because it was both a nearby piece of land between china and japan.. which is no problem for china to get to by foot (horses), and japan by boat... korea, japan, and china had a numeral war thoughout history, i say over 2000 years, or 3000.... since china is between 4000~5000 year old country.... there was a piece of land above north korea that was taken by china ALONG time ago, which is just a forgetable past for korea... though there were more battles between korea and japan, which there were about 4~5 major battles... in which the battle was relatively inconclusive in terms to victoriousness... since its only a few hour travel to korea from japan by boat today, not sure back in the days though
