How did people in Japan react to the bombing of Pearl Harbor? -

Were they for or against it, did they know this was going to happen, and when it did were people mad or happy? Is it true that Japan really WANTED to be in WWII and thats why they bombed Pearl Harbor? need it for World Civilizations final project; which is how Pearl Harbor affected society in Japan. any tips?

It was highly praised. Of course no civilian knew a plan of the attack in advance but Japanese media always had depicted Anglo-American as demons and threat to Empire of Japan. War against China was at a deadlock, economy was damaged from war effort and casualties were increasing. The US supported China. Success of the attack was accepted as breakthrough of this situation, at least people thought so at the time. It raised the morale of the Japanese people which had been so low because of the long war in China. People made a donation to the navy ministry. 1,590,139 yen was donated within few days after the attack and 3,407,170 yen after military gains were reported on Dec.18.

Mostly Japan s public was misdirected about the war. They were told that they were winning when they indeed were NOT. The bombing of Pearl was a turning point for their war effort, but as far as for the every day citizen, they were not told the truth. They learned it as we dropped the A bomb killing a lot of very confused people.
