Is the DVD format in Canada the same as in Japan? -

I want to create a DVD to send to my pen-pal in Japan.

YES, we have the same DVD format ( NTSC format ) here in Japan as Canada, but we have different region codes. So, it kinda depends on what u wanna send. If you d like to send a DVD movie with a region code, your friend would need to use a region free DVD player to play it, but if your simply sending a home-made DVD with no region code, your friend would probably be able to play it.
