How old do you have to be to rent a hotel room in Japan? -

How old do you have to be to rent a hotel room in Japan?, More specificaly Tokyo, I want to go next year for my 16th birthday.

Age matters in the sense that you need a major credit card to stay at most hotels around the world, Japan included. If you can speak Japanese, you could probably talk to an small local hotel and get a room. In general, minors asking for hotel rooms is difficult. Also, think about purchasing airline tix, and your passport.

There is age restriction for staying Love Hotels but business hotels and other hotels are usually accept teenagers. It depends on the each Hotel. A credit card is not always required for staying Hotel in Japan. Usually, you pay the bill when you CHECK IN the hotel. And when you check out you pay the phone bill etc.....whatever you owe. Some Hotel just need a parents consent letter for underage customers, so best thing is you find a hotel and ask the hotel what is rule for a minor. This is a Hotel Okura Tokyo s rule for a minor. 未成年者のみのご宿泊は、保護者の許可のない限り、お断りいたします。 This means you have to have a parents consent letter.

Under 18 is considered as quot;under agequot; in Japan. And each prefectures has different local ordinance regarding people under age. The ordinance is regarding juvenile protection, teen s crime and sex, etc. Some hotels may ask you to show your parent s agreement to stay alone or call your parents from the hotel. It depends. Also you have to show your passport when you check in. Try hostels.
