What are the best cities to visit in Japan? -

We want to make an at least 14 day round trip to Tokyo, but want to see as much of Japan as possible.

Kyoto - many historical sights and the cultural center of Japan Nara - often mentioned with Kyoto, another place for cultural sights Tokyo - the largest city in the world, also contains many interesting places and sights. A good place for shopping Hiroshima - any American who travels to Japan should try to go to Hiroshima to tour the Atomic Bomb Museum and Peace Park. It s a great way to learn about an aspect of WWII that is not discussed in the textbooks. Miyajima - (near Hiroshima) location of Itsukushima Shrine, the most famous shrine in Japan. Osaka and Nagoya are also places to consider. If you are going up north, you may want to to go Sapporo.

i think that yokohama and tokyo are both very nice places to go...yokohama is a smaller city, but there are many cool place to go and see..tokyo is also very very nice...lots of shopping at ginza...

You should go to Kyoto. Kyoto is a beautiful city. I don t think there are so many other cities you can visit during 14 days.

I agree with the previous answer: Kyoto is a must. I think you can take the high-speed train there from Tokyo. On your way, you can also visit Kobe. It is beautiful there.

How about Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hokkaido (sapporo)?

All the tourists will go to Tokyo and then Kyoto, adn they are both exciting and interesting. But only the real Japan lovers know that Kamakura is the temple-city to see. IT is within a 90 minute train commute from Tokyo. I lived there and went many times. It never gets old and is never les than wonderful. You can retrieve a guide map from teh Kamakura station and find hte temples on your own. The less people, teh better. Cap off the day with the Daibutsu. (The Big Buddah) He is a stunner. But take the time to read/understand the purpose of each temple, like the one for dead children, the one for fertility, the one for bringing money, etc. It is more exciting when you understand what you are doing at each spot. Enjoy the sweet potato or lavendar ice cream in warmer months and take a swam boat out onto hte water for relaxation.

I went to Japan in 2005 and would highly recommend a trip to Takayama in the mountains. Go on the train and it s a very scenic trip. Much sure you go to the Hida Folk Village and visit the Float Museum.

If you want to go shopping or know modern-day japan, the place Which I recommend is Tokyo. Because There is a lot of shops and you can see modern jappanese buildings and life. If you want to know old history, the place which I recommend is Kyoto. Because There is a lot of historical buildings. If you will go to Tokyo and Kyoto, I think that you should use the bullet train. Because you can see Mt. Fuji in the bullet train. Hve a nice trip in japan.

I think you should try to visit cities from the South to the North. Kagoshima Kumamoto Nagasaki Fukuoka Osaka Kyoto Tokyo Then make your way up to Sapporo, Hokkaido. Good luck, and Enjoy your trip.
