Whats the best, most well-known, reliable place to teach English in Japan with? -

I would like to look into teaching English in Japan. What is the top company to try and do this through? It seems like some might not be on the quot;up and upquot; and if I were to do this I would want to make sure I would not go out there and be stranded.

The most reliable is, after all, public junior high or high schools. But as private English schools, the largest ones after NOVA went bankrupt are as follows. Aeon http://www.aeonet.co.jp/index.html ECC http://www.ecc.jp/ Geos http://www.geos.co.jp/

AVOID NOVA ! This is no longer the cushy job it once was. There are now more teachers available than jobs.

The JET program, which is run by the Japanese gov t, is by far the most reliable. They take very good care of the people they hire. However, AEON, ECC, and GEOS are all very well-established schools. NOVA (which I used to work for) no longer really exists. They declared bankruptcy last October and have had some serious struggles getting back on their feet. Their schools were bought by another company (G Communications), but they re just starting to get back into the swing of things and many of the smaller school won t be open again for quite a while (if ever). http://www.expatriate-games.blogspot.com

Japan Exchange Teaching aka JET. The JET Programme is one of the largest exchange programmes in the world. JET has flourished because it receives wide support from a variety of sources, but most notably from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR). What you get out of it can differ from others. I applied and eventually pursued a different direction. My college buddies who worked in JET all had different positive expereinces.

berlitz is another option

You can teach english in other countries, in Japan there are many problems for foreign teachers because the biggest company(NOVA) went bankrupt and many teachers lost their jobs. So now there are too many teachers and too few jobs. It s better to wait a few years. There are many countries where teaching english is a good option: Germany, Italy, France, Spain, China and many other places.
