I don t know of any POW s who were airlifted out of Japan. Many were liberated and then spent a month or two recovering their health. In some cases, those recovering were shipped to the Phillipennes, where my Grandfather was, and given medical care and nutritional support (this included British and Dutch POW s, as well as Americans). But wherever they spent their time recovering from the malnurishment and maltreatment they had suffered, they were then taken by train to ship, and sent home on ships rather than flown home.
