Is it safe to bring medicines for another person from manila to narita, japan? -

my mother is here with me in tokyo right now and we decided to extend her vacation for another month. however, her prescribed medicine for diabeties, cholesterol, rheumatism, etc were only good until this month. my friend will be coming here soon and If it won t be any problem with the customs, she said it s okay for her to carry.but im not sure if it s really okay.i can let her carry the prescriptions if it can make it alright. or if not, how can i mail medicines from philippines to japan?

It s OK to bring medicine to Japan. I guess it s better for her to bring it in her hand baggage so that she can explain to custom when she s asked a question about it. Addition: The below Japanese custom page (Japanese) says you can bring prescribed medicine with maximum amount of 1 month dosage. http://www.customs.go.jp/tetsuzuki/c-ans... You can ask them in advance if you are really worrying about it. http://www.customs.go.jp/question_e.htm

The medicines need to be certified by the precription doctor/pharmcist qualified to do so, to a named person(i.e. your friend! ) requiring the medicine. Ask at hotel or relatives in Tokyo how to purchase the medicines .... maybe quicker and safer...

No problem because this is just for personal use only. Mailing medicines is also available by post mail or EMS or any courier service.(you just declare the content as medicine for personal use on paper)
