Japan does not recognize domestic partners, fiancees, etc. as valid for a dependent s visa. You either have to be actually married or you could try to get a student visa if you can enroll in a Japanese school. If you are not American you could try for a Working Holiday visa, but otherwise you can t get a work visa without a degree.
He s applied to be on JET...He won t know till early next year after an interview :P Unless if there s someone of getting yourself declared as a dependent...when you say quot;partnerquot;, what do you mean by that? On the application there is a question about other people that might be going with him. If you qualify, the consulate/embassy should be able to assist you. Either way, they would be the best people to contact to see what qualifies you. Oh, just remembered! Japan might have a working holiday visa that would work...
Consider getting a student visa and continuing college here. Temple University Japan might be a good choice, as it has classes in English.
There are no long term visas for non-relatives.
Japan is a very hard country to get a visa for. Contact the Japanese embassy to find out if you could stay long term.
