Adria is misinformed or a sucker. I lived in Japan for 18 months and was never ripped off. Things are fairly cheap compared to my own country Australia. Some things are almost 3 times cheaper like Coke, sushi and snacks. You can eat lunch for as little as 200yen if your on a budget. Have 2 onigiri you can get from a convienience store for 210 yen. It s healthy, tasty and your full. Tokyo is expensive but so is every capital city no matter where you are in the world but I found food in Tokyo no more expensive than other places.
I lived in Japan 2 1/2 years and I disagree! Food IS more expensive in Tokyo, going out to eat at restaurants is often very expensive. Yes, you can find cheap food at 7-11 amp; some budget restaurants, but you only find these places after you ve lived in the city for awhile, not as a tourist. Report Abuse
...Besides, who wants to go on vacation to Japan to eat at 7-11?! Coke 3 times cheaper?! Where did you live before Japan, Eithiopia?! No way Coke is 3-times cheaper in Japan vs. America! On average you will pay 500 Yen for a small coke, no refills in Japanese restaurants. Report Abuse
quot;Stuffquot; in Japan costs much more than the same quot;stuffquot; in Thailand - make the smart choice!
Aw. Haha. Going to Japan to eat at MacDonalds?
?Well, take a look, here s the Mc s price list in yen: http://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/sales/menu/me... How much it costs will depend on which sandwich/burger you order. ☆Value set price is in the red circle. Just the burger is the small black price listed under the red circle. ~Get your daily dollar yen exchange rate here: http://finance.yahoo.com/currency Today, 5/5, $1 = 120.28 yen. ☆☆It will vary from day to day... You will have to exchange dollar to yen to buy things here in Japan. ~☆How s that? Hope it helps. Have a great time here in Japan!?
EVERYTHING here costs more. Many stores will take advantage of you if they know you are a tourist. For example something may be priced at 200 Y and when they sell it to you they jack it up to 300 Y. This is because you really dont know the difference between the prices, as you are unfamiliar with our monetary system. Also expect to walk mostly everywhere. Cabs cost much more than they do in USA. For example, a simple cab ride may cost as much as 50 US dollars. However, you will deffintely be able to afford McDonalds, I wouldn t worry about that.
I know this is off topic...but the current exchange is about 120 yen to the US dollar...not 233 as one guy mentioned above.
McDonalds? You should watch quot;Super-Size Mequot;. Go for Udon/Soba shops. Better menu, and healthier. But if you must know, a Big Mac is 280yen. Cheeseburgers and the MacChicken burgers finally made it to the 100yen menu. Fish Fillet is 230yen. Basically, the sandwiches range between 220yen to 280yen. Sets are in the 500+yen range. 100yen = $.83 Basically the same price as the US dollar menu, but the sandwiches are smaller. In the US the double cheeseburger is on the dollar menu, but in Japan, just the cheeseburger. So, I guess you get a better deal in the US. Either way, give you arteries a break. Go with a Japanese diet while you are here.
In one american dollar there is about 233 yen
