Where to stay in Japan for four week visit? -

I am in a graduate program that requires four weeks in a culture. I have picked Japan and need to know of places that might give discounts for a four week stay. Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be to look for a Japanese guest house or a cheap business hotel (the cheapest hotel I have found was 450 US dollars a week), but also look for a hostels (but most hostels come with rules and a curfews). If you really want to experience the culture try staying at a Shukubo(Temple Lodging) they are cheap some are free, others require a donation to the temple (most have a curfew). There are lots of these in Kyoto and a few in Tokyo. Also in the months of June, July and Aug many of the camp grounds in Japan are open and that is cheap almost any where you go.
