Australian electrical appliances in Japan, Will they work? -

I going over to Japan and frequently use a hair straightener and hair dyer. I ve been told (by a questionable source) that smaller appliances like cameras or laptops may work if you buy and adapter plug, but heating appliances like those mentioned are running at a vastly different voltage rate. Can anyone help?

I think that is most likely; small electronic items with external chargers tend to have universal power supplies, so you can find printed on them text like quot;100-240 voltsquot; indicating they can be used abroad too. For home electricals, though, there is less chance of this. Look at the manual for your straightener and dyer (dryer?) and see what power sources it handles. You can in theory buy a transformer and take it with you, but (1) they are heavy, and (2) most home use models only handle up to 1 amp or so, so they will probably get overloaded. I found that out with a dryer I took on holiday, so next time we went we bought a travel use one with a big 110/220 volt switch on it.

Unfortunately, Australian electrical appliances will not work in Japan because there is only 2 holes while in Australia, we have 3 holes. So, you would need to buy a transformer in Japan to run an Australian electrical appliance.
