What were the three major options the Allies had when dealing with Japan in the summer of 1945?

Invasion (planned for November, 1945) Blockade (including increased incendiary and high explosive conventional bombing raids) Employment of the atomic bombs and the bluff that we had large stockpiles thereof, and would continue to employ them until there was nothing left of Japan.

Invasion - Operation Downfall was the plan. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Acropoli... Blockade - surround the Japanese and essentially starve them out. Negotiated surrender - this would violate FDRs/Trumans statements for unconditional surrender .
