What is something you would buy from Japan? -

If you were to buy merchandise from Japan, which product would you buy? The reason for this question is; I m hoping to send various items unique to Japan, to different buyers, collectors, etc around the globe. So, your input as to what would sell and what would not, is something I wish to know.

Everyone seems to like Pocky. But as far as collecting . . . hmmm. There are some absolutely amazing quilts that Japanese women do these days . . . sometimes out of old kimono materials. Also, my friend loves the cute fabrics for children. With the anime craze, you might be able to find a niche there. Oh, and socks. I have a Japanese friend who always stocks up on cute socks when she comes to Japan. (She lives in the US, where socks can be pretty boring.) Personally, I love those fuzzy blankets which feel like mink, but are some sort of acrylic, I think. Edit: I live in Japan. As for sending stuff out . . . you might check into kuronekoyama for shipping, or the Japanese post office is really a good deal if you can send it small packet (less than 2 kg. and there is a generous size allowance). As for advertising . . . are there any anime or manga fanzines in your target country that you could put advertising into? Also, some of the odd, speciality magazines might be good, too. I m thinking about in-flight magazines or museum-mags like The Smithsonian. Possibly a vegetarian magazine? A surprising number of vegetarians like Japanese culture. I m talking about the classifieds in back, not a full-page ad, per se.

What I do buy from Japan ● Pens-- Slicci makes the best, I have a lot of Slicci pens and quite a few Pilot ●Clothes-- Japan makes high-quality clothes, and I am not just talking about traditional clothing. ●Seiko watches, my husband loves his. ●Snacks-- sounds cheesy, but Japanese put a lot of hard work in making the snack AND making its wrapper look awesome. ● Electronics in Akihabara-- The hottest place to buy anything electronic... or anything manga/anime. When you get there, just wander around Tokyo and you ll go through each different district and find plenty of UNIQUE things that can only be found in Japan. The Japanese are crafty.

I brought the following items back from Japan: 1.good luck charms which are only sold at temples(omamori) 2.original yukata, complete with sash and obi. 3.fan with any kind of Japanese scenery painted on it. 4.wind charms; the kind that is made of glass, and has only one klepel (the part that hits the glass, and makes the sound), 5.daruma in any size. 6.chopsticks with a Japanese scenery design, 7,paddles that were originally used in the 1800 s for a game similar to tennis, but are now beautifully decorated on one side with the face and upper body of a geisha.(I can t remember the name of this; my Japanese friends parents gave this to me). 8,jin-bei 9.sake from all over the country,(Okinawan sake tastes different than sake from Hokkaido.

FOOD. and anything really cute. o and a kimono, a cute hat with ears, some gothic lolita, a sakura tree, and some pretty paintings

* Fountain Pens (NOS like Pilot, etc.) * Samurai Figurines * Original Made in Japan Wristwatches * Japanese Paintings (especially winter scenes, cherry trees, and geisha girls) * Quality Katanas
