Can you use an Australian phone with international roaming when visiting Japan? -

I am told that most Australian mobile phone cannot operate in Japan even the service plan include international roaming. Why is it so? Is it because of the phone set or the different type of network used in Japan? How can you overcome this situation and made phone call in Japan using an Australian phone with international roaming? If you buy a prepaid SIM card in Japan, does it work?

In Japan, there is no GSM network (i.e. 2G network). To use your phone in Japan, you must have a phone that also supports W-CDMA (i.e. UMTS-based 3G network) phone.

1 Because your IPS doen activiate your international call service. 2 Your country s ISP ccannot work in another destination , usually. 3 If you have a japanese ISP SIM card, of course you can use in Japan, 4. Also you can use a VoIP service, then, you can call any destinations wherever you are with cheap rates.Like skype.

Well, we took an Aussie mobile to Morocco and Ireland this year and it worked in both places no problem and we didn t have to buy a SIM card in either places.
