I will be moving to Japan in about 6 months for the Army. Do you know anything about the Army bases? -

I am supposed to go to either Torii station in Okinawa or Camp Zama near Tokyo. How are the Japanese people and stuff about Japan?

quot;nearly everything in Tokyo and Yokohama is bilingualquot; Ok maybe this isn t an answer to your question but I strongly disagree with that statement with every fiber of my being. What that should say is quot;Almost nothing in Tokyo, Yokohama or anywhere is bilingualquot;.. Unless you think romanized train station signs are bilingual and helpful.. Anyone can get around town with a bit of brain power and some learning time but to really enjoy Japan, you are going to have to learn Japanese. Can t get around. It s an awesome fun place. I came when I was 21 and I m alsmost 30 now. fun fun fun.. It will also make you angry a lot. Not even worth trying to describe, you just need to come here and find out.

I spent two years there. Camp Zama is on the Kanto Plain near Tokyo. It s a great place to be. Just incredible. You ll get hot, humid summers and cold, sometimes snowy, wet winters. Ski resorts are close and so are good beaches in the summer. Fantastic public transportation. Okinawa is much less developed. Public transportation isn t even close to what you ll find at/near Camp Zama. The weather is almost tropical. You re right in the middle of typhoon alley on Okinawa. Great scuba diving year round. Be sure to take the Japanese languages classes that are offered. Great shopping, especially at Yokosuka Naval Base near Camp Zama.

you will LOVE Japan. It s an amazing culture and very friendly. nearly everything in Tokyo and Yokohama is bilingual. you will also be close to Yokota AFB and Yokosuka NB( if you go to Zama).
