What are some good Souveniers to buy from Japan? -

I am going to Japan in June and I wish to bring some souveniers back for my family. I am getting a replica shuriken for myself but i want something nice that isnt too expensive for the family.

Wait and buy made in Japan stuff when you get home God knows we have plenty here, plus you wont have to deal with customs

All fo the quot;Japanquot; stuff is fine and all, but I think your family and friends would enjoy more of a locational souvinier. Say instead of just crappy old chopstick they can get anywhere, get ones with the Tokugawa Crest from Toshogu Shrine.

The quot;Oriental Bazaarquot; on Omotesando - Harajuku - Tokyo is the one stop tourist shop. I ve been taking visitors there for years and they re always happy with the place. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguide-27... http://travel.yahoo.com/p-reviews-276483... quot;Nice and not to expensive for the familyquot; Japanese writing wall scrolls Silk table cloths fans split toe socks (tabi) kimonos / jimbe for nightwear Japanese kitchen knives (very high quality from kappabashi) make sure you don t buy a sushi knife for cutting your roast beef. (High price = high quality) Rice wine (sake/nihon shu) and ochokko (sake cups) a furin (wind bell) - they re synonymous with japanese summer

The souvenir ranking (from TV program) Asakusa 1) jika-tabi, 2) chouchin(lantern), 3) toy sword, 4) kimono, 5) trunks, 6) ningyo-yaki(food), 7) setta, 8) Edo-kiriko, 9) figure of Gundam, 10) shichimi-tougarashi(spice) Ginza Hakuhinkan 1) LED illuminations of Christmas, 2) Nohohon-zoku(doll), 3) jigsaw puzzle, 4) post card, 5) Studio Ghibli goods, 6) figure of anime, 7) doll of Rika-chan, 8) robot of Transformer, 9) Mugen-Puchi-Puchi, 10) radio control toys, 11) Hallo Kitty goods, 12) sushi candle, 13) plastic model of Gundam, 13) Tomika, 15) Pokemon goods Akihabara 1) Japanese doll, 2) digital camera, 3) earphone, 4) mobile game, 5) gachapon, 6) figure of anime, 7) rice cooker, 8) personal computer, 9) canned oden, 10) blood pressure gauge, 11) maid clothe, 12) software of mobile game, 13) i-Pod, 14) anime DVD, 15) kakejiku Kamakura 1) daibutsu goods, 2) scarf of Japan-like pattern, 3) hato-sabure(food), 4) geta, 5) chopstick, 6) Studio Ghibli goods, 7) magonote, 8) kamakura-bori, 9) Hallo Kitty goods, 10) okaki(food)

Definitely Kokeshi dolls, I get one or two every time I visit, the word kokeshi means limbless wooden doll . You can buy them in most places in Japan. Also, little items of clothing that are very Japan orientated, kimono, zori, etc. There s some nice silk tablecloths, chopsticks, fans, candles and stuff in the big department stores, depending on which part of Japan you go to. Enjoy your trip!

I came back from Japan last December, its my third trip there. I purchased an Astro Boy blue print poster which is pretty cool. It is roughly about US$20 but it is two posters, which are over-lays for each other. Other than that, there are confectionery and chocolates which are great. They have Mamp;Ms in Japanese packaging. If you drink regular coke, bottles have a key chain giveaway, which locals use for their cell phones. It is a different gift. If you are concern with cost, try to find a 100 Yen Shop, which is about US$1. You can find some souveneir like the items other have mentioned. Good Luck.

Kokeshi dolls

Chopsticks are always good. Origami paper is also nice. Japanese tea cups - they have many shapes and sizes with all kinds of patterns. If you go to a big 100 yen shop (everything costs less than a US$1) you should be able to find tons of cheap, cute and/or unique stuff to buy.

**Go to a department store grocery hall and buy something unusual to bring back - sembei (rice crackers), mochi/daifuku (sticky rice candy), dried squid crackers, etc. My mom loves quot;Baum Kuchenquot; cakes. **Go to Kappadori near Asakusa and buy plastic food (the kind you see outside restaurants in Japan) -- you can get anything from sushi to curry rice to beer to edamame **Visit Mujirushiryohin (Muji in English) and pick up some cool but simple items -- shoulder bags, acrylic cases, mint shampoo, etc **Walk through Tokyu Hands dept store (try Shibuya or Shinjuku) -- this is one of the most unusual dept stores in the world, and you re sure to find something! Happy travels!
