How do people casually dress in Japan? -

What kind of things do people in Japan usually wear on a daily basis?

People who say that Japaneses dress like Americans are seriously mistaken. Us Americans are so casual that it s ridiculous. You would rarely, and I mean RARELY ever see a Japanese girl or guy in their PJs, sweat pants, sweat shirts, etc like you see all the time in the US. Girls in Japan dress up pretty much all the time. It s not unusual to see them in high, high heels even though they ll be walking for hours on end. A lot of the younger ones can be what Americans would consider quot;skankyquot; with short shorts and short skirts. Layering shirts is pretty popular with men and women. However, breasts and shoulders are rarely ever shown by Japanese girls unlike Americans. Schoolgirl type leggings that go up to the knee and ones that come *down* to the knee are worn by just about every girl. As for men, they dress quite feminine. A lot of them have quot;man-bagsquot; aka purses. Their shoes are often pointy and quite fancy, their pants are tight (even on their suits) and in general they look a lot more quot;put togetherquot; than American guys. I would say that Americans and Japanese don t dress anything alike. I like the way Japanese dress.

I lived in Japan for 6 years, but they are really alike to what Americans wear. Some people might wear kimono, but its not that common. If you re a student in middle or high, you have to wear the clothes designated from the school everyday

Compared to what we wear here at Singapore, I d have to say that the Japanese folks are generally more trendy, and tend to place alot of emphasis on looking good. I also noticed that they rarely dress sloppily, unlike the people here in Singapore

The words of the guys who say it is alike Americans sound arrogant. You should say it is western wears and it is not only in Japan but also in the most part of Asia. The very first Japanese fashion designers went to Europe, especially Paris, and brought lots of trendy fashions from Europe. New comers followed them, travelled around the world and made up today s Japanese style. This is the recent history. Accessories are the key for current fashion.

Same kind of clothes as americans. Their kind of like the 51st State now.

yep, if you d watch animes(i doubt you do) about somewhere in Japan, you would see them wearing T-shirts, pants, jeans, anything considered casual in America, and just like America, in Japanese conventions(games, anime, anything possible) you would see people wearing costumes(aka cosplay) of anime characters, i admit japan is weird but id like to go there sometime ^^. So overall Japan s styles are almost the same as America, cept that japan is a less violent place, i dont think people would cuss you out or be as aggresive as New Yorkers would be, lol
